FAQ

What age can my child start?

Grade one.

Due to the nature of Taekwon-Do we do not make exceptions to this rule because we require our students to have the ability to focus, remain seated, listen, and learn well. (p.s. we love to have fun!)

Have you ever taught children with special needs?

Yes!

We are more than happy to have children who have special needs or requirements and provide them with extra assistance/attention as needed. However, please note they will be in our normal class sessions.

What type of Taekwon-Do do you teach at Sokownin's Taekwon-Do?

We teach according to International Taekwon-Do Federation standards also known as ITF.

This means we have a special emphasis on traditional self-defence and follow the original teachings of General Choi Hong Hi.

An further explanation of this process will be done in class.

What is the difference between ITF and WTF / other Taekwon-Do?

Taekwon-Do is Taekwon-Do. The only difference is instructor and student relationship and training.

How do we Register / Costs?

We are currently getting online registration and payments set up, but for right now cheque, e transfer or cash payments will be taken in person on registration day.

Prices vary according to age, we also offer a special family rate.

I already have a belt in another Martial Art, do you honour my belt?

We will honour most belts due to martial arts abilities. The only exception to this is the black belt, they must be retested under ITF regulations and rules.

Is there contact in Taekwon-Do

Yes, there is a varied amount of contact in Taekwon-Do. Lower belt levels are typically non contact as we are teaching them the proper skills and techniques related to distance, timing and power. As students progress through the belt levels, we start to introduce controlled contact with the use of sparring gear.
